Yes it is!
I had the pleasure to review a brand new sewing and quilting book, Sew Red, that just hit shelves this month! It’s the 2nd in a 4 book Stitch Red series dedicated to raising awareness in the prevention of heart disease – the #1 killer of women in the US.
Thirty renowned designers are included in this beautiful book, including Ty Pennington, Amy Butler, Kaffe Fassett, Tula Pink and Suede, to name a few. Each project consists of easy to follow instructions, information about the designer, as well as their own experience with heart disease and/or heart healthy tips.

I love this book! After looking over all the wonderful projects in Sew Red, I had to sew something! I chose to make the Sonoma Purse, on page 109. This purse is made from just three fat quarters! I have a huge stash of fabric, but none were complete fat quarters. So using what I had on hand, my purse was made with four different, very colorful fabrics.
The instructions for this purse pattern was easy to follow. I have made a lot of purses in the past but this was the first purse I made with pleats and a gusset! Love the look!

I’m a huge Downton Abbey fan. Or was. Still pondering how I feel about the show now. What a shock!!
Those of you who watch Downton Abbey know what I’m talking about. Matthew died! The same day his son was born! I’m still reeling from the shock that Sybil died during childbirth. What the heck? Downton is my happy, I can’t wait til Sunday night, show. There is no room for tragedy!
After the season finale was over last night, I started Googling information about the show, including the actor who plays Matthew, and found out that it was the actor’s choice to leave after Season 3. Somehow it made me feel a little better knowing that Matthew, while driving in his convertible with no seat belt, paying little attention as he whistled in the wind, ended up with his car sitting on top of him. He wanted out. His choice. Knowing that helped the crushing pain (no pun intended!) I was feeling about his death.
Still, my heart is sad. My BFF, however, is almost inconsolable. We’ve talked all day. I must be strong for her. Will we watch Season Four? To be continued… 😉
I have a recipe for Chicken Parmesan to share with you. It’s my family’s very favorite thing I make. And it involves meat, which is a shocker if you know me. (I’m not a vegetarian, I just think meat is generally yucky.) But this recipe is FABULOUS! 😀
3 chicken breasts
salt and pepper
2 beaten eggs
1 cup or flour
1 1/2 -2 cups of seasoned croutons (use food processor to crush)
2 TBSP olive oil (add more if needed)
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
1 large jar of spaghetti sauce.
Flatten chicken. Sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper. Put beaten eggs, flour and crushed croutons in separate shallow bowls. Dip chicken in flour, then the eggs, then the croutons. Make sure the chicken is completely covered on both sides. Brown slowly in the heated oil til golden brown. (Heat oil on medium-medium high.)
Pour 1/4 – 1/2 jar of spaghetti sauce to the bottom of a 9 x 13 dish. Lay chicken on top of the sauce, then add slices of mozzarella cheese on top of the chicken. Add more sauce to the top of the chicken and cheese, then top with Parmesan cheese.
Heat oven to 350. Cook covered with tin foil for 20 minutes, then an additional 20 minutes uncovered. Serve over spaghetti noodles.
I heat the remaining sauce in a pan to have if needed. I always serve this dish with garlic bread and a fruit salad. ENJOY!
Maybe it’s age, maybe it’s hormones, maybe I just think too much, but I don’t sleep. I can get to sleep, I just don’t stay asleep. And when I wake up at 2 or 3 in the morning, my mind is off and running!
I don’t know why I just can’t quiet my brain. I tell myself to knock it off and go to sleep, but I don’t listen to me. Very frustrating I tell ya!
Last night I was remembering one of the first snow/ice storms we had in my neck of the woods. I was pregnant with my first child and craving cantaloupe and honey-dew melon ALL the time. My lovely Hubby stopped at the grocery store on his way home to get a few groceries, including the melons. Our house at the time was at the bottom of the street and our house had the steepest driveway in the neighborhood. So Hubby had to park his car at the top of our road (because of ice) and walk down to our house. He managed to carry the grocery bags down the road without slipping and falling. Once he got to our yard, he decided to walk up hill on the grass of our yard, so not to slip on our icy drive way.
Well, he did slip. As soon as the grass ended and he had to step on the driveway, he lost his footing. And as I watched, with horror, as he slid all the way down our driveway, all I was really seeing was the melons bouncing down the hill past him.
My poor cantaloupes! I mean my poor Hubby!
It occurred to me, as I laid wide awake in the middle of the night, how our priorities change as we get older. Because now I would most definitely be concerned about ALL the groceries tumbling down our driveway, not just the melons. 😉
Something amazing happened this week. I made dinner TWO nights in a row! AND the dinners were new recipes! Yep. It’s Ok. I’ll wait while you catch your breath.

TWO TIMIN’ PASTA BAKE
1 box penne pasta
1 (15 oz.) jar Alfredo sauce
1 (24 oz.) jar Marinara sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup shredded parmesan cheese

The soup was a definite hit because my son said “This is pretty good”. A true miracle, believe me!
I know my friends and family are thinking right now “WHO ARE YOU?” Well, I like to shake things up a bit. I can be wild and crazy. But I do think cooking for the third night in a row might be going a little too bonkers. I will have to see if I think the family can handle it. 😉
